Taylor Swift’s track “Wood” was undeniably one of the year’s biggest conversation starters.
Earlier this week, the music database Genius shared its year-end statistics, revealing that a particularly provocative lyric from Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl album — found in “Wood” — ranked among the most-viewed of 2025.
The lyric? “He ah-matized me and opened my eyes,” featured in the bridge of “Wood,” a lively song known for its daring lines and nods to her fiancé Travis Kelce’s presence and personality.
Other lyrics that drew massive attention this year included Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”
Genius also noted that its highest-traffic day of 2025 coincided with the release of The Life of a Showgirl on October 3, when the site recorded 29 million views. Only the launch of Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department surpassed that daily traffic.
Overall, “Wood” ended up as the fourth most-viewed song on Genius for the year, with “The Fate of Ophelia” ranking sixth. Swift was the most-streamed artist on the platform in 2025.
During an October appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Taylor Swift discussed the creation of “Wood.”
“I brought this idea into the studio wanting a throwback, timeless vibe,” she said. “I had this concept around, like, ‘I ain’t gotta knock on wood,’ and we literally started knocking on wood, exploring all these superstitions.”
She added with a laugh, “It began in a really innocent way… and honestly, I don’t even know what happened after that.”
Swift continued, “We got in the studio, started vibing, and somehow it turned into this. I love this song so much.”
In a separate chat with SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, Swift shared her mother Andrea’s perspective on the track.
“She probably sees it as being about common superstitions, which it definitely is,” Taylor explained. “That’s the fun part of the double meaning in the song.”
