Benson Boone Pauses His Backflips to Join Elementary Students on Their ‘Bike Bus’ to School

While in Portland, Oregon, for his American Heart World Tour, the “Beautiful Things” singer joined local students for a morning bike ride.
Benson Boone gave elementary school kids an unforgettable surprise during his latest adventure.
On Friday, Oct. 3, the “Beautiful Things” singer joined hundreds of students for their morning Bike Bus ride in Portland, Oregon, after fans encouraged the 23-year-old artist to take part.
Photos posted on the Bike Bus’s official Instagram page captured Boone biking alongside thrilled children, waving to cheering onlookers, and chatting with students on their way to school.
That same night, Boone performed at the Moda Center at the Rose Quarter as part of his American Heart World Tour, marking one of his final North American shows before his upcoming European leg later this year.
Sam Balto, co-founder of the Bike Bus, shared the memorable moment on Instagram on Oct. 4, posting a video of himself cycling alongside other riders and waving at the camera. “@bensonboone, you brought so much happiness to our community,” he wrote, adding his gratitude: “Thank you for joining the #BikeBus while you were in #Portland. (I’m also so glad both my sons got to experience this with me).”
Speaking with Upworthy, Balto described Boone as “the kindest and most genuine person” he’d ever met. “He spent time chatting with the kids, learning their names, answering questions, taking selfies, and singing along,” Balto said. “After the ride, he even stayed to sign hundreds of autographs. He truly gave our kids and community an incredible gift.”
Another post shared to the Bike Bus Instagram account on Oct. 8 featured a video of Boone riding with the students during their sunny morning commute. The caption read, “What an unforgettable afternoon with @bensonboone on the #BikeBus! 🚲💫 The energy, the smiles, and the singing made it a ride we’ll never forget.” It also thanked the pop star and fans who helped bring the collaboration to life: “Your support keeps the Bike Bus rolling and spreading joy to kids and communities everywhere. 💛 #BensonBoone #Joy.”
During one point in the ride, Boone’s hit “Beautiful Things” played over a speaker — and the children enthusiastically joined in for the chorus, making the singer beam as he sang along.
Boone isn’t the first celebrity to hop on the Bike Bus. Back in January, Justin Timberlake also joined students for a rainy ride to school while his upbeat hit “Can’t Stop the Feeling” played in the background.
According to the organization’s website, Bike Bus aims to “improve the wellbeing of children, communities, and the planet” by encouraging groups to bike to school together. It also helps other communities start their own Bike Bus programs to promote healthier, more sustainable commutes.
