Beyoncé shares that she “would be a walking dead” without her singing abilities, stating, “It’s what I was born to do.”

In a cover story for GQ, the pop and R&B superstar revealed why creating music doesn’t feel like “work” to her.

Beyoncé’s passion for music is clear.

In a GQ cover story published on September 10, the 43-year-old pop and R&B icon discussed why she feels she “would be a walking dead” without her ability to sing.

“My voice has always been my companion,” Beyoncé explained. “It’s why I’ve always been able to find happiness on my own. Music understands my heart even when I can’t express it in words.”

Beyoncé also shared that she finds her “peace” in “private sanctuaries” such as the studio and her car.

“Singing soothes me,” she explained. “It steadies my heartbeat and provides my best hit of dopamine. There’s a certain magic in sitting at the piano, letting my fingers play random chords, and allowing anything and everything to flow out.”

The “Church Girl” artist mentioned that singing has repeatedly “healed” her and described music as “one of the deepest joys” in her life.

“Without singing, without music, without creating, I would be a walking dead,” said the “Texas Hold ‘Em” artist. “Creating music isn’t work for me; it’s what I was born to do.”

Beyoncé also shared that she has interests beyond music, including indulging in baths with essential oils, acupuncture, cupping, and reflexology.

The 32-time Grammy winner added, “I make honey, paint, decorate, swim, and design clothes and stages. I’ve written children’s books for my kids and worked on animation. Anything creative brings me joy.”
