Her attorney, Michael A. Goldstein, entered a guilty plea to a reduced “wet reckless” charge on her behalf on Monday, May 4, in connection with her March 4 arrest in Ventura, California on suspicion of DUI.
Following the legal proceedings, the 44-year-old pop star has shared reflections on what she describes as a “spiritual journey,” posting on Instagram alongside a photo of her holding a baby snake. In the caption, Spears wrote that she visited a pet store with her children and was captivated by the young snake, which she described as symbolic of “good health, higher consciousness, and pure luck.”
She also spoke about gratitude and personal growth, saying she has experienced what feels like a “blessing in disguise,” while avoiding direct mention of her arrest. Spears added that she is thankful for her friends and new connections she has made, and admitted she is still learning to treat herself with more kindness, describing self-growth as an ongoing process.
In a statement after the hearing, Goldstein said Spears accepted responsibility and had already taken steps toward positive change, noting that the Ventura County District Attorney’s decision to reduce the charge and dismiss the DUI reflected those efforts. He added that Spears appreciated the outcome and the support she has received.
As part of her sentence, Spears received 12 months of probation, one day in jail (credited as time served), and a $571 fine. She is also required to complete a three-month DUI program, attend regular sessions with a psychologist and psychiatrist, and allow her vehicle to be searched for drugs and alcohol.
At the time of her March arrest, a representative said the incident was “completely inexcusable” and that Spears would comply with legal requirements and seek appropriate help and support. She was released early the following day, and later charged with a misdemeanor on April 30. Authorities noted that the reduced “wet reckless” charge was offered due to her lack of prior DUI history, no accident or injuries, and a low blood alcohol level.
