Charli XCX is standing up for her friend Sam Smith.

After announcing their new collaboration “In the City” earlier this month, Charli posted to TikTok on Tuesday and said she’s seen many hateful comments toward Smith online, firmly condemning such behavior.

“Hi everyone. I’m about to release a song with Sam Smith, and the experience has been really interesting,” said the British pop star, 35. “Never in my life have I seen someone receive so many hateful comments online. It’s been really disheartening.”
