Cher Spreads Holiday Spirit on SNL with Seasonal Performances and a Chuck Berry Cover

At 79, Cher appeared as the musical guest on the December 20 episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted by Ariana Grande.

For her first performance of the night, Cher performed “DJ Play a Christmas Song,” a track from her 2023 holiday album, Christmas. She later returned to the Studio 8H stage to perform a rendition of Chuck Berry’s classic “Run Rudolph Run,” also included on her festive LP.

This marked Cher’s first appearance as a musical guest on SNL since November 1987. Although she has never hosted the show, she has made several cameo appearances over the years.

Earlier this month, Cher released a new holiday single, “Christmas Is Here,” as a follow-up to her Grammy-winning Christmas album.

Christmas, Cher’s twenty-seventh studio album, features original songs such as “DJ Play a Christmas Song,” her first new material since 2013’s Closer to the Truth. The album also includes renditions of holiday classics like Eartha Kitt’s “Santa Baby,” along with duets featuring Darlene Love on “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” and Stevie Wonder on “What Christmas Means to Me.”

In addition, Cher released Forever last year, her eleventh greatest hits collection, which compiles some of her most iconic tracks, including “Believe,” “If I Could Turn Back Time,” and “Strong Enough.”
