During the opening night of her Las Vegas residency, Cyndi Lauper didn’t hold back when addressing a heckler, warning, “If you’re trying to throw shade at me, I’m going to come right back at you.”
Cyndi Lauper made it clear she wouldn’t tolerate disruptions during the opening night of her Las Vegas residency.
The 72-year-old icon launched her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun residency on April 24 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. During the show, a heckler interrupted her, urging her to stop talking and sing. Lauper fired back onstage, dismissing the comment and reminding the audience to respect the setting.
She didn’t hold back, warning the heckler that she would respond if provoked, while also leaning into her Brooklyn roots and asserting her freedom to run the show her way.
The residency draws inspiration from her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun farewell tour, which wrapped in August 2025 after nearly 70 performances across four continents. The Las Vegas production features a 16-song setlist, bold costume changes, multiple wigs, and immersive visuals that bring new life to songs spanning more than four decades.
Backed by an all-female band, Lauper performed for over two hours, focusing largely on her biggest hits from the ’80s and ’90s, including “Change of Heart,” “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough,” and “I Drove All Night”—a track also famously covered by Celine Dion, who previously held a long-running residency at the same venue.
Throughout the show, Lauper mixed music with candid storytelling, sharing personal anecdotes about her family, her connection to professional wrestling, and her artistic inspirations. She emphasized that her Vegas run is rooted in creativity, describing it as a collaborative blend of art and music.
While she largely avoided political commentary, she made a subtle statement during “True Colors,” when she and her band raised their fists in front of a Progress Pride flag—closing the night with both style and meaning.
