Drew Lachey shares his reaction to Mariah Carey recalling him years after their collaboration with 98 Degrees.

Drew Lachey reflected on recording the 1999 track “Thank God I Found You” alongside Mariah Carey during a recent podcast appearance.

Drew Lachey is reflecting on reconnecting with Mariah Carey years after the pop icon collaborated with his band, 98 Degrees.

The 49-year-old spoke about recording the 1999 hit “Thank God I Found You” with Carey, 57, and R&B singer Joe during a recent episode of the Teen Beat podcast with Danielle Fishel.

Lachey explained that when 98 Degrees recorded the Grammy-nominated track for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals, Carey wasn’t actually in the studio with them.

“We were on tour, and so was she,” he said. “It was like two ships passing in the night. But when we filmed the video, she came to one of our tour stops because we were performing almost every day and didn’t have time to travel for a shoot. So the video was basically made on our tour stage somewhere in the middle of America.”

He added, “It was kind of like, ‘Alright, let’s just make a video for it.’”

Years later, Lachey ran into Carey again during a table read for a Hallmark movie. “I consult on some movies filmed here in Cincinnati, and she came in to direct and star in a Hallmark project,” he said.

“At the first table read, she was sitting across from me with her sunglasses on. When introductions came around, she lowered her sunglasses, looked at me, and said, ‘I know you.’ I was so relieved because it would’ve been awkward if she didn’t remember me. She acknowledged that we’d worked together and even had a No. 1 hit, which felt great,” Lachey recalled.
