Ed Sheeran Says He Found Out About Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Engagement on Instagram
Ed Sheeran admits he could’ve used a little more notice when it came to his friend Taylor Swift’s big news.
During an interview with Andy Cohen for SiriusXM’s Small Stage Series, the 34-year-old singer revealed that he learned about Swift’s engagement to Travis Kelce the same way everyone else did.
“Instagram,” Sheeran said simply, prompting Cohen to ask in surprise, “Instagram?”
“Yeah,” Sheeran confirmed. “Like everyone else.” When Cohen followed up by asking if Swift had at least given him a heads-up via direct message, Sheeran laughed and replied, “No.”
The “Shape of You” hitmaker also noted during the sit-down that he hasn’t received a “save-the-date” for the upcoming wedding between Swift, 35, and Kelce, 35.
Sheeran and Swift’s friendship stretches back more than a decade. They first connected in 2012, when Sheeran joined her Red Tour as an opener. That same year, they released their duet “Everything Has Changed,” featured on Swift’s Red album.
Reflecting on that time during an April appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Sheeran recalled, “I lived in Nashville, she lived in Nashville, and we used to fly to gigs together. I literally spent almost every single day with her for about six months.”
Though their lives have grown busier since then, Sheeran said the two still make time for each other. These days, he estimates they see each other around four times a year — but when they do, it’s always meaningful. “We’ll have proper six-hour catch-ups instead of quick conversations,” he explained.
Over the years, the longtime friends have reunited musically several times, from Swift’s 2017 track “End Game,” to the re-recording of “Everything Has Changed” for Red (Taylor’s Version), and Sheeran’s “The Joker and the Queen” remix — which even brought back the same child actors from their original 2013 music video.
