Jessica Simpson makes her stage comeback after 15 years, unveiling her new song ‘Breadcrumbs’: ‘I Had to Rediscover Myself’

The singer and entrepreneur is preparing to launch her first project in 15 years, titled Nashville Canyon Pt. 1, scheduled for release on March 21.
Jessica Simpson returned to the stage for her first live performance in 15 years!
On Wednesday, March 12, the 44-year-old “Irresistible” singer performed at the Recording Academy’s Austin Chapter Block Party during SXSW in Austin, Texas.
According to Rolling Stone and posts from the Recording Academy’s Instagram Stories, Simpson spoke about her choice to return to music before performing her new song, “Breadcrumbs,” marking its live debut.
“This time, I had to reconnect with who I truly am and remember why I fell in love with singing in the first place — along with all the music that moves me,” Simpson shared with the audience. “I also had to let go of the person others expected me to be.”
As reported by Rolling Stone, Simpson performed a new track titled “Blame Me,” alongside her recent singles “Use My Heart Against Me” and “Leave.”
According to the Recording Academy’s Instagram Stories, she also delivered covers of Nancy Sinatra’s 1966 classic “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” and Dusty Springfield’s 1969 hit “Son of a Preacher Man.”
Just hours before her SXSW performance, Jessica Simpson gave fans a sneak peek in an Instagram Reel.
“Which way to #SXSW? 🚘” she captioned the post, which showed the “I Wanna Love You Forever” singer sporting a blue fur coat and sunglasses at the airport.
In the clip, Simpson playfully said, “Hey everybody, it’s Jessica Simpson. We just landed in Austin, and right now I’m gonna wait in line at Enterprise. This is not an ad, but I’m getting a rental car,” she joked.
Although Simpson released a cover of Nothing but Thieves’ “Particles” in 2021 and shared six songs alongside her 2020 audiobook, her upcoming EP Nashville Canyon, Part 1 will mark her first official project in 15 years.
In February, Simpson revealed to PEOPLE that her return to music was inspired by her 12-year-old daughter, Maxwell, who had expressed a desire to visit Nashville for her 11th birthday.
