On Sunday, May 18, the 44-year-old singer and fashion icon performed on the season 23 finale of American Idol.
Displaying her impressive vocal talent, Simpson delivered a powerful rendition of her new track “Blame Me” from her Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1 album. She was then joined by former contestant Josh King for a duet of her 2005 cover of “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’,” originally recorded for the Dukes of Hazzard soundtrack.
American Idol praised the performance on Instagram, calling it “A fierce return from a pop queen and @officialjoshking! 💄👢 @jessicasimpson #AmericanIdol.”

Simpson gave fans a sneak peek of her new hair color with an Instagram post titled “American Idol Rehearsal 💫,” featuring a video of her on the steps of her trailer while her latest song, “Use My Heart Against Me,” played in the background.
Her hairstylist, Rita Hazan, described the shade as more natural, evoking the look of a child at the beach. Speaking to PEOPLE, Hazan called it a “desert sunset blonde” that took about two hours to complete.
