Jessie J Clarifies She’s Still Awaiting Surgery Results After Cancer Affirmation Confusion
Jessie J has spoken out to clear up misconceptions about her breast cancer journey.
On Friday, June 27, the 37-year-old singer took to Instagram to explain that she has not yet received the results from her recent surgery. This clarification comes after some misinterpreted a recent Instagram Story post, where she shared a list of pros and cons related to her treatment experience.
One of the “pros” Jessie listed included the hopeful phrase “The cancer has all gone,” accompanied by a fingers-crossed emoji. However, she later clarified that this statement was intended as a hopeful affirmation, not a confirmed medical update.
“To all media and everyone messaging me: you misunderstood my post,” wrote the “Price Tag” singer, whose real name is Jessica Cornish. “That line was from a list of pros and cons about breast cancer surgery. It was meant as a positive thought, not a fact.”
She added, “I haven’t gotten my results back yet—my surgery was just six nights ago. I used the crossed fingers emoji thinking people would understand that I was being hopeful, but clearly, many didn’t. That’s on me for not being clearer. But the reality is, I don’t yet know the outcome. I’m praying it turns out that way, but cancer doesn’t follow a simple script.”
Jessie first revealed her diagnosis on June 3 via Instagram, shortly before her performance at Capital’s Summertime Ball with Barclaycard at Wembley Stadium—her last before beginning treatment.
At the time, she said she chose to be open about her experience, partly because she hadn’t processed it herself due to her busy schedule, and also because past vulnerability online had brought her comfort, support, and connection with fans. She added with her signature humor, “It’s a pretty dramatic way to get a boob job,” and promised she’d return post-surgery with “massive tits and more music.”
The singer shares a 2-year-old son, Sky, with her partner Chanan Safir Colman and has remained candid about her journey on social media. On June 8, she posted about enduring her toughest day since sharing the diagnosis, citing the strain of juggling motherhood, performing, and cancer.
In her usual lighthearted tone, she said what helped lift her spirits that day was something unexpected: “I ate a corn on the cob. Turns out it’s extremely hard to panic or cry while eating one. Highly recommend.”
Despite her sense of humor, Jessie also emphasized that she won’t sugarcoat her experience or focus only on the positives. “I won’t just share the highlights or make jokes,” she wrote. “I’ll also talk about the fear, sadness, panic, and overwhelm—because it’s important to let those feelings surface and be acknowledged.”
