A heartwarming surprise unfolded during Jessie J’s recent concert in New York City.
The British pop singer, 37, brought her No Secrets Tour to Irving Plaza on Wednesday, Jan. 28, delivering an intimate performance filled with soaring vocals and playful exchanges with the audience. One of the night’s most memorable moments came when Jessie invited a young fan onstage — and he completely stunned the crowd.
Spotting the child in the audience, Jessie appeared to sense he had musical talent and handed him the microphone. When she asked what he wanted to sing, the boy — later identified as Noah — chose her 2011 hit “Nobody’s Perfect.” As soon as he began, the audience erupted in cheers, clearly impressed by his voice.
Though he seemed nervous at first, Noah quickly found his confidence. He powered through the ballad with remarkable control and emotion while Jessie mouthed along to the lyrics, smiling and encouraging him from the stage.
After the performance, Jessie explained that his nerves were actually a good sign, telling him they came from caring deeply about what he was doing. She encouraged him never to ignore that feeling, describing it as the mix of fear and excitement that makes performing meaningful. Holding onto that spark, she said, is essential — and not everyone has it.
She went on to share that moments like this are exactly why she loves performing live.
Joking with the crowd, Jessie pointed out that Noah likely wasn’t even born when the song was released. When she learned he was 12 years old, she laughed that she’d sign him immediately if she could — though she joked that she doesn’t even have a record deal herself, having released her latest album Don’t Tease Me with a Good Time independently through Darco Artist Partnerships.
Jessie thanked Noah for the performance and asked the audience to give him a huge round of applause. She then searched the crowd for his mother, teasing that she had briefly stepped away at precisely the wrong moment. Turning to her, Jessie marveled at her son’s talent and joked that while she was gone, her child’s life had just changed forever.
The Grammy-nominated singer closed the moment by telling Noah how proud she was of him before stepping off the stage to give him a hug in the crowd.
Jessie J’s No Secrets Tour continues across North America through Feb. 6, with additional dates scheduled throughout the U.K. and Europe in April.
