Jessie J Shares How Embracing Her Son Sky After Experiencing a Miscarriage Felt Like a ‘Joyful Conclusion’

The English pop singer describes to PEOPLE the “magical experience” of welcoming a child with her partner, Chanan Colman.
Jessie J is currently experiencing a particularly positive phase in her life.
After suffering a pregnancy loss in 2021, the 37-year-old English pop singer welcomed her first son, Sky, with her boyfriend Chanan Safir Colman two years later. She reflects on the difficult time in her debut independent single, “No Secrets,” and is now sharing how becoming a mother has brought brightness to her life.
“Honestly, the amount of love is so overwhelming,” Jessie tells PEOPLE about the response to “No Secrets” since its release on April 25, marking her first major single in nearly four years. “There’s always that little voice that wonders, ‘Do people care? Do people want this?’ But the joy and excitement from fans has been incredible.”
“No Secrets” begins with a heartfelt confession: “I lost my baby / But the show must go on, right?” When writing the song, the “Price Tag” artist wanted to create a direct, sincere connection with listeners through honest lyrics about her miscarriage.
“That line obviously reflects my own experience,” Jessie explains about the opening verse. “But as adults living in this chaotic world, we all face heartbreak, loss, grief, and trauma — yet we still have to get up, care for others, be present, or go to work to pay the bills. We all find ways to store that sadness and keep going.”
Although sharing such a personal and painful story was challenging, she felt a strong need to be transparent with her fans on “No Secrets,” especially after not releasing new music for years. “It’s the kind of song that had to come first, or not at all,” she adds.
Jessie and Colman started their relationship later in 2021, and she welcomed their son Sky in May 2023. She now sees his birth as a “happy ending” following a difficult period. “I adore this boy and this man so much, I could tear up,” she shares with a smile.
“It’s heartbreaking that not everyone gets their happy ending,” Jessie adds. “The gratitude and joy I feel every day, waking up knowing he’s here with me, healthy and safe… Until you go through it yourself, it’s hard to truly grasp. I didn’t fully understand it until he arrived.”
The “Domino” singer expresses, “Finding the love of my life and creating our love of our lives together is the most magical experience I’ve ever had.”
Jessie’s current outlook is captured in her upcoming single, “Living My Best Life,” set to release on Friday, May 16. The song radiates pure happiness through its lyrics.
“When I perform that song, I think about all the loved ones I have in heaven,” she shares. “I’m living for them. I wish they were still here.”
Although written about five years ago, “Living My Best Life” has accompanied Jessie through many personal journeys, and she’s now ready to share it with her audience.
