Jessie J Opens Up About Breast Cancer Struggles and Feeling ‘Robbed’ of Time with Her Son
Jessie J has spoken candidly about the challenges of balancing motherhood while navigating her battle with breast cancer.
During an appearance on Great Company with Jamie Laing, released Tuesday, Aug. 19, the 37-year-old singer reflected on the emotional toll of undergoing treatment while raising her 2-year-old son, Sky, whom she shares with her partner, Chanan Safir Colman.
“Yesterday I just cried, because I miss my boy. I can’t be the kind of mom I want to be, and I feel robbed,” Jessie J shared. She added that the most difficult part has been feeling as though cancer has stolen precious moments from her: “With a toddler, everything changes so quickly. You blink and suddenly he’s talking.”
The “Price Tag” artist first revealed her breast cancer diagnosis on the podcast back in May, though that episode was never aired. She returned for the latest conversation to open up about her journey following her mastectomy in June.
Jessie admitted that some days are “awful,” recalling that in the early stages of her diagnosis, she feared the worst. “I was terrified. I thought, ‘I’m going to die.’ I didn’t know if I would need aggressive treatment or how bad it really was,” she explained.
Her diagnosis began after she discovered a lump in her breast, which doctors initially suspected was a cyst. Tests later confirmed it was cancer, measuring roughly 4 to 5 centimeters.
“I just broke down in tears,” Jessie remembered. “I was so sure it was nothing. Then they give you the results and say, ‘We’ll be in touch.’ And you’re left thinking, ‘Okay… what happens now?’ ”
