The 39-year-old pop star showered Charli XCX with praise during her appearance on BBC’s The One Show on July 25. She enthusiastically declared it’s “a Brat summer,” referencing Charli’s viral album phenomenon.
Pointing out the neon green theme of Charli’s Brat album, Perry remarked, “You guys, this is a Brat couch, Charli XCX. This is Brat summer and your couches are Brat. And the trash cans are Brat. You guys are really Brat fans.”
Perry confirmed that she is “of course” a fan of Charli XCX, noting, “She is in her prime right now. She’s got all of her flowers, she works so hard, and she is a super mega big pop star.”

In her recent Billboard cover story, Charli XCX delved into the viral appeal of her Brat era, highlighting how she played with the concepts of “inclusivity and exclusivity” as a core aspect of her latest album phase. She shared that she’s more intrigued by the marketing of pop music than by the music itself, explaining the Brat phenomenon as follows:
“With Brat, it was fascinating to create something that felt exclusive for the fan base—while making sure that once you’re part of it, it’s actually very inclusive,” Charli noted. “Anyone can join the club; it’s just that people come in at different times and in various ways—whether through my private Instagram posts, a 400-person Boiler Room event, a surprise cinema screening of a new music video in Los Angeles, or even a text message from me.”
As previously mentioned, Charli XCX hinted on X that “Brat summer is only just beginning :).” While the specifics of what this entails remain unclear, Charli is set to hit the road with Troye Sivan this fall for their joint headlining tour, titled Charli XCX & Troye Sivan Present: Sweat. The tour will launch in Detroit on September 14 and wrap up in Seattle on October 23, featuring performances of her Brat songs.
