Katy Perry Experiences Stage Mishap Mid-Air During Australian Tour Stop
Katy Perry had a heart-pounding moment during her live performance in Australia when a stage prop malfunctioned mid-air.
The 40-year-old pop icon, currently touring as part of her Lifetimes Tour, handled the situation calmly and professionally during her concert at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Sunday, June 29.
In a fan-captured video shared on X (formerly Twitter), Perry is seen preparing to be hoisted above the crowd inside a large metallic sphere, holding onto cables attached to the structure. As the drumbeat kicks in and the sphere begins its ascent, it unexpectedly tilts, causing Perry to briefly lose her balance. She quickly regains control by gripping the cables tightly while the tilted structure swings overhead.
Moments later, the crew lowers the sphere back down and carefully adjusts it, prompting cheers from the audience as they ensured Perry’s safety.
The tour supports her sixth studio album, 143, and Perry has described it as an immersive, high-energy experience. “It’s like a massive Disneyland-on-wheels,” she told PEOPLE in January. “There are outfit changes, acts, dancers, musicians—I’ll even be flying across the venue. There’s no such thing as a bad seat.”
Despite the visual spectacle, the tour hasn’t come without its challenges. Perry missed the recent wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez in Venice due to the tight touring schedule, and the Adelaide incident added to her list of unforgettable tour moments.
The next night, during her June 30 show, Perry appeared emotional near the end of her set. In a video also shared on X, she’s seen standing center stage with her arms raised, forming a heart shape with her hands.
“Thank you for always being there for me, Australia. It means the world,” she told the crowd, before pausing to collect herself. With a smile, she added, “Now let’s sing ‘Firework!’”
