Katy Perry Hints at Performing a Never-Before-Sung Track at the FIFA World Cup — and It Isn’t a New Release

The pop star is set to take the stage at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Los Angeles on June 12.
Katy Perry is preparing a special surprise for soccer fans at the FIFA World Cup.
The 41-year-old pop star is scheduled to perform during the tournament’s opening celebration in Los Angeles on June 12. Ahead of the event, Perry revealed that her performance will feature a song she has never sung live before.
Speaking with PEOPLE at the Tribeca Festival premiere of her concert film Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour — Live from Paris on June 8, the singer hinted that the track holds particular significance for the occasion. While keeping the title under wraps, she shared that the song is not a recent release but comes from one of her previous albums, adding that she is eager to finally bring it to the stage.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup began on June 11 with a match between Mexico and South Africa in Mexico City. This edition of the global tournament features 48 national teams competing for the championship, with the competition set to conclude on July 19.
The opening festivities in Mexico City featured performances from a diverse lineup of artists, including Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, and Maná. Shakira and Burna Boy also debuted “Dai Dai,” the tournament’s official anthem.
A second opening celebration took place in Toronto at BMO Field on June 12. Performers included Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Elyanna, Jessie Reyez, Michael Bublé, Nora Fatehi, Sanjoy, Vegedream, William Prince, and several other artists.
Later that day, Perry joined a star-studded lineup for the United States’ opening ceremony. Fellow performers included Future, Anitta, LISA, Rema, and Tyla. Country duo Dan + Shay were selected to perform the U.S. national anthem, while Purahei Soul delivered Paraguay’s national anthem.
The appearance comes months after Perry concluded her Lifetimes Tour in late 2025. The tour highlighted material from her album 143, including songs such as “Woman’s World,” “I’m His, He’s Mine,” “Nirvana,” and “Crush,” alongside fan favorites like “California Gurls,” “I Kissed a Girl,” “Roar,” and “Firework.”
Meanwhile, her concert film Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour — Live from Paris recently premiered at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center in New York City and is expected to receive a wider theatrical release later this summer.
