Katy Perry Gets Honest With Fans About Singing Emotional Songs Amid Personal Changes
Katy Perry didn’t hold back on being real with her audience.
During her July 15 stop at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, the pop star opened up to fans during her “Choose Your Own Adventure” segment, where concertgoers vote on which songs she’ll perform live.
When “Not Like the Movies” came out as the winner, Perry—who recently ended her nearly decade-long relationship with Orlando Bloom—reacted with raw humor: “You’re seriously choosing this song for me to sing right now in my life?”
Still, the 40-year-old singer took it in stride. “Alright, alright, we’re doing it! You picked it,” she said with a grin, before revealing that fans also selected “The One That Got Away.”
Explaining her approach to the tour, Perry told the crowd, “I choose a different album to represent each country I visit, and for the U.S., it had to be Teenage Dream. Because America, you are a teenage dream. Get it together. I’ll always feel that way about you.”
As she prepared to sing “Not Like the Movies,” she reflected, “I wrote this one back in my twenties… after my first divorce.” Then, with a laugh, she warned the audience, “I’m going to try and keep it together while performing this—a week before my period!”
The emotional moment came just days after Perry appeared at the Balenciaga haute couture show on July 9. That same day, Bloom, 48, shared a photo carousel on Instagram, including a rare family picture with Perry and their 4½-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove.
Perry’s next stop is set for July 18 at San Francisco’s Chase Center. After wrapping up the North American leg, she’ll continue the Lifetimes Tour across South America, Europe, and Asia, with the final show scheduled for December 7 in Abu Dhabi. Earlier this week, she added a fifth show in China—November 26 in Shanghai—after quickly selling out four others.
Ahead of her tour, Katy Perry shared with PEOPLE that fans can expect a celebration of her biggest hits — and more.
“This tour is about honoring all the music people have come to love over the years,” Perry said. She also hinted at debuting a few new tracks and explained the tour’s name: Lifetimes Tour — a nod to the musical journey she’s taken so far.
Perry promised she’d be revisiting some lesser-known fan favorites too: “I’m bringing back some deep cuts.”
Describing the vibe of the show, the Dark Horse hitmaker called it a “spectacle full of love,” adding that fans should come prepared to dance all night long.
