Katy Perry Tells Fans She’s Focused on Moving Ahead: ‘No Forcing, No Controlling’

Perry looked back on the past year as she celebrated the first anniversary of her album 143.
Katy Perry is sharing heartfelt reflections on her past year in a new message to fans.
In an Instagram post on Monday, Sept. 22, the 40-year-old singer looked back on the one-year anniversary of her 2024 album 143.
“I’m not usually one for anniversary posts,” her caption began. “I tend to look toward the future, but it would feel wrong not to acknowledge the incredible impact this past year has had on me.”
Later in the note, she added, “Whatever comes next, I’m letting it unfold naturally. No forcing, no controlling — just trusting the angels, the fans, and the music to guide me where I’m meant to go,” hinting at personal changes she has navigated over the last year.
In June, Perry and her longtime partner Orlando Bloom ended their nine-year relationship. The two share a daughter, Daisy Dove, 5.
Alongside her letter, Perry shared behind-the-scenes clips and photos from the making of 143 and rehearsals for her Lifetimes Tour, which celebrates her biggest hits, including “Firework,” “The One That Got Away,” and “California Gurls.”
Calling 143 an “I love you” to her fans, Perry described albums as “snapshots of an artist trying to tell their story of where they are now or have been, hoping that someone will hear themselves in the message.” She thanked her fanbase for joining her on the “rollercoaster” of her career and for helping nurture the community around her music.
The Teenage Dream singer also reflected on lessons learned from her journey: “History is important. We learn from it, we’re reminded of what to do — and what not to do. We celebrate wins and reflect on losses. All of it is valuable.”
Looking back on her career in the spotlight, Perry continued, “Through the years, I have been loved, tested, and challenged. That’s part of the journey. I feel blessed to know that there are always two sides to the coin — and even when it lands on tails, I somehow still get to make my wishes.”
She ended her note by recalling a friend who once gave her a book called What Katy Did Next, promising to keep “moving forward and dreaming.”
