Katy Perry’s Night Out with Justin Trudeau Stands in Sharp Contrast to Her Visit to the Same Tokyo Venue with Ex Orlando Bloom Just One Year Earlier

The pop star and the former Canadian prime minister confirmed their relationship on Instagram on Dec. 6.
Katy Perry’s recent Tokyo date with Justin Trudeau looked strikingly different from a similar outing at the same spot a year ago with her ex, Orlando Bloom.
The 41-year-old singer shared a series of photos and videos from her Lifetimes Tour stop in Japan on Saturday, Dec. 6. One clip featured Perry and Trudeau, 53, enjoying sushi together — marking their first Instagram post as a couple. In the video, Perry tries uni, a local delicacy, while Trudeau watches and smiles. She captioned the post, “Tokyo times on tour and more ( ◠‿◠ ) 🎄🍣🐡🥞💐☃️♥️.”
By contrast, last year Perry had shared a video from what appeared to be the same restaurant with Bloom, 48, on New Year’s Eve. In that clip, the couple quietly sipped sake together. The caption read, “Sending love to all in this next year… the new year is always an opportunity for transformation… as a 5x ♏️ transformation is my middle name… ✨. We put the OK in tOKyo for NY 🎊🎍.”
PEOPLE reached out to representatives for both Perry and Bloom on Dec. 7, but did not immediately receive a response.
Rumors of Perry and Trudeau’s romance first surfaced in the summer after they were spotted on a date in Montreal, Canada. At the time, Perry had recently ended her engagement in June, while Trudeau had separated from his wife Sophie Grégoire after 18 years of marriage.
Perry and Bloom had been together for nine years and share a 5-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove. A source previously told PEOPLE that Trudeau had been “pursuing” Perry since their Montreal dates, even flying to California to see her during a tour break. “They have an easy connection. She finds him attractive. He’s been very respectful,” the insider added.
The couple made their first public appearance as a pair on Oct. 25, attending a cabaret show at Crazy Horse Paris for a birthday celebration. Photographs showed them walking out hand-in-hand, smiling for the cameras.
