Kelly Clarkson Ditches Shoes During Interview with Jim Gaffigan — And He Shares His Opinion

The comedian mentioned that a “segment of the internet” might find Clarkson’s barefoot moment appealing.
Kelly Clarkson conducted an interview with Jim Gaffigan without wearing shoes, and the comedian had something to say about it.
In the January 7 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Gaffigan, 58, teased Clarkson, 42, for going barefoot during the taping. “What’s going on with the feet?” he asked as Clarkson attempted to wish him a happy new year.
He then playfully mimicked Clarkson’s possible reason for being barefoot in a high-pitched voice. “I feel more grounded when I sing if I’m barefoot,” he joked. “I can feel the ground.”
Clarkson laughed and agreed with Gaffigan but clarified her reason. “I do like performing barefoot, but that’s not why I’m barefoot,” she said, explaining that her feet were simply hurting.
“The stilettos I was supposed to wear today, I didn’t have enough middle fingers for them… so I just said no. I’ve never gone barefoot before, but that’s OK. That’s what we’re doing,” Clarkson explained.
Gaffigan, who released his comedy special The Skinny on Hulu in November, disagreed. “For me, first of all, I wouldn’t have my feet exposed because I respect the audience,” he remarked. Clarkson quickly responded, “And I don’t.”
The Unfrosted actor didn’t stop there, joking that a “portion of the internet” would likely enjoy seeing Clarkson go barefoot in this episode. Clarkson, however, was quick to counter his remark, joking back, “I’m gonna get a whole new fanbase.”
Clarkson has gone barefoot on her talk show before, notably during Kellyoke performances of Birdy’s “Quietly Yours” and The Revivalists’ “It Was a Sin” in February 2024.
She’s also expressed her comfort with being completely naked. In December, Clarkson shared that she loves being nude, though she added, “Until gravity takes hold.”
