Kelly Clarkson Says She Wants ‘Everyone Who Walks By Me’ to Compliment Her Body After Weight Loss

The Grammy-winning artist discussed her body transformation during a performance at Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Kelly Clarkson is embracing her journey and celebrating her current place in life.
During a performance at Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on May 10, the 43-year-old Grammy winner captivated the audience with her powerful vocals and down-to-earth, engaging personality, performing everything from “Since U Been Gone” to her latest track, “Where Have You Been.”
At one point in the concert, Clarkson had a lighthearted exchange with a fan who complimented her on her “sexy” appearance. Grateful for the kind words, particularly after her recent weight loss, she joked about her struggle to compliment others’ appearances aloud on the set of her NBC talk show.
“Every time I attend an HR meeting, I can’t help but think, ‘How have I not been fired yet?'” laughed the Because of You singer, who has been open about using prescription medication for weight loss. “I started touring at 19, so I used to think, ‘Oh, that’s inappropriate. I’d never do that.'”
She continued, “But then they tell you you’re not supposed to say someone looks good, and I’m like, ‘Forget that,'” Clarkson exclaimed. “Because some of those people are out here working hard, giving it their all, and I want everyone who crosses my path to think, ‘Damn, well done.'”
She shared a story about almost getting into a confrontation with an HR representative over the issue. “They said, ‘Well, it might make people feel bad if they looked worse before.’ I used to be heavier, so I’m saying I want people to think, ‘Damn.'”
Clarkson went on to emphasize that there’s “nothing wrong” with anyone’s body, explaining that she “felt really confident” even at a higher weight. “I was happy both ways, but I’m just saying that clothes are more fun now. And I’ve been putting in the work.”
The American Idol alum expressed her gratitude to the fan for the compliment and humorously assured them, “I won’t be calling HR about this.”
She continued, “It’s not that HR isn’t serious, but some of the things they discuss are just so funny,” adding with a laugh, “And we’re all like, ‘Oh no, we would never do that.'”
Before performing “My Life Would Suck Without You” from her 2009 album All I Ever Wanted, Clarkson expressed her gratitude to the audience for attending the concert.
