When Taylor Swift revealed her upcoming 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, earlier this week, many listeners quickly drew parallels to Kylie Minogue’s 2005 Showgirl: The Greatest Hits Tour. Both feature dazzling visuals, with the singers dressed in jewel-covered costumes and extravagant feathered headpieces. In light of the comparisons, Minogue has now weighed in.
Posting a series of throwback photos in glamorous showgirl attire, the Australian pop icon shared on Instagram: “When all your friends start sending you your Showgirl memes!!! 😳🥺🙃 Awww.”
She added: “The showgirl life is its own world — layered, multidimensional, and so much more than just sparkle and feathers. 💖 Sending love and admiration to all my fellow hardworking showgirls 😘.”
Minogue’s Showgirl: The Greatest Hits Tour originally ran from March to May 2005 but was cut short following her breast cancer diagnosis. She later returned to the stage in 2006 with a revised version titled Showgirl: Homecoming Tour.
Meanwhile, Swift introduced The Life of a Showgirl during her appearance on Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast. The album cover depicts the “Cruel Summer” singer wearing a rhinestone top while partially submerged in water, with orange hues dominating the album’s imagery.
Explaining the aesthetic, Swift said: “It feels like the energy I’ve been living in. This album reflects what was happening behind the scenes in my personal life during The Eras Tour — which was so vibrant and electric.”
She also revealed that she reunited with longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback for the project, calling the experience magical: “Working with them again after seven or eight years felt like catching lightning in a bottle. They’re geniuses.”
Swift reminded fans that the trio previously created many of her biggest hits, including “We Are Never Getting Back Together,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “22,” “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” “Style,” “Wildest Dreams,” “…Ready for It?” and “Delicate.”
