Lady Gaga Confirms Telephone Video Sequel Is Still on the Way 15 Years Later — but Will Beyoncé Return?

Fans have been eagerly anticipating a sequel to the Jonas Åkerlund-directed music video for Lady Gaga and Beyoncé’s Telephone ever since its release in 2010.
The music video for Lady Gaga and Beyoncé’s hit collaboration Telephone famously ends with the words “To be continued…,” leaving fans eagerly waiting for a sequel since its 2010 release.
In a new Vanity Fair video, Gaga took a lie detector test and confirmed that the long-awaited continuation is still in the works. Though she remained tight-lipped on specifics, she hinted that Beyoncé might be involved once again.
“The video for your song Telephone said ‘To be continued…’ at the end. Will it ever be continued?” the host asked.
“Yes,” Gaga responded hesitantly.
“When?” they pressed further.
“I don’t know,” she admitted.
The host then showed a photo of Beyoncé and asked if she would be part of the sequel.
“Maybe,” Gaga replied with a smile, holding up the picture.
Telephone was released as the second single from Lady Gaga’s 2009 EP, The Fame Monster. The hit collaboration peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.
Directed by Jonas Åkerlund, the song’s highly stylized music video premiered in March 2010 as a sequel to Gaga’s Paparazzi visual. The over-the-top, campy short film portrays Gaga as a fashionable prisoner, jailed for poisoning her husband.
Beyoncé later appears to bail Gaga out, and together they embark on a chaotic road trip in the Pussy Wagon from Kill Bill: Volume 1, ultimately poisoning a group of men in a diner. The video ends with the duo driving into the desert as the words To be continued… flash on screen, leaving fans anticipating a follow-up ever since.
Gaga is currently preparing to release her seventh studio album, Mayhem, on March 7. The project has been led by the singles Die with a Smile featuring Bruno Mars, Disease, and Abracadabra.
Aside from her collaboration with Mars, the only other featured artist on the album is Gesaffelstein on the track Killah, making it unlikely that the long-awaited Telephone sequel will be part of Mayhem.
However, according to Mother Monster herself, fans shouldn’t lose hope—the next chapter of the iconic music video could still be on the horizon.
