Lady Gaga’s fiancé, Michael Polansky, always knows how to lift her spirits.
During her Mayhem Ball tour stop in New York City on Friday, Aug. 22, the 39-year-old pop star — whom fans recently nicknamed the “Abracadabra” singer — shared that both her fiancé, 41, and a close friend offered encouragement just before she stepped on stage in the city where her career first began.
Reflecting on her journey, Gaga told the audience, “I remember walking through these streets, fighting so hard for my dreams, for what I believed in, and for myself.” She explained that before the show, she confided in her friend China, admitting, “I think I might fight my way through this performance, because when I’m in New York, I fight. I have to earn it. I have to go for it.”
Her friend, however, gave her advice that stuck: “Sometimes you don’t have to fight — you just need to show up.” Gaga said the words touched her deeply, and added that Polansky echoed a similar sentiment backstage. “Right before I came onstage, my fiancé said, ‘When you go out there, let them fill you up,’” she revealed while holding back tears.
She went on to introduce “Hair” from her Born This Way album, a track she had not yet performed during the tour. Gaga told the crowd that the album was especially meaningful to her, saying, “All my records are tied to New York, but I know this album, in particular, wouldn’t exist without this city.”
Before launching into the song, she dedicated the moment to her fans: “This is for all of you and for all your dreams — for the times when it’s not about fighting, but just about showing up.”
The night before the show, Gaga and Polansky were spotted out together in New York City on Aug. 21, enjoying dinner at the popular celebrity hangout The Corner Store. Gaga stunned in a black catsuit paired with a cropped, oversized blazer, while Polansky opted for a casual look in a hoodie, dark jeans, and sneakers.
The couple has been together since 2020, after first being photographed kissing during a New Year’s Eve celebration in Las Vegas. They later went public when they attended Super Bowl weekend in Miami, sharing plenty of PDA.
