Lady Gaga was mesmerized by Lucy Dacus’ interpretation of one of her Mayhem tracks.
During a session for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, Dacus—best known as a member of boygenius—delivered a haunting, folk-inspired cover of Gaga’s “Abracadabra.” The stripped-back version offered a stark contrast to the original’s dance-pop production, highlighting the song’s lyrical depth.
Gaga, 39, took to TikTok on Wednesday, April 2, to share her reaction to the performance, commenting on a clip of Dacus singing the pre-chorus: “😭 I LOVE this so much wow captures the purity of the song.”
In the clip, Dacus croons, “With a haunting dance, now you’re both in a trance / It’s time to cast your spell on the night,” giving the track an ethereal, earthy tone that resonated deeply with Gaga.

Lucy Dacus, who dropped her latest single Forever Is A Feeling on March 28, took to X to share her excitement over Lady Gaga’s praise. Posting a screenshot of the TikTok exchange, Dacus simply wrote, “I’m shaking.” Fans were just as thrilled by the moment, with one user commenting, “COLLAB WHEN,” and another urging, “Now put it on streaming, tysm.”
The “Best Guess” artist also recently opened up to PEOPLE about another notable artist interaction—this time with Taylor Swift. Dacus confirmed that she’s name-checked on the title track of Swift’s upcoming album, The Tortured Poets Department.
“Sometimes, I wonder if you’re gonna screw this up with me / But you told Lucy you’d kill yourself if I ever leave,” Taylor Swift, 35, sings on the title track of The Tortured Poets Department.
Speaking about the lyric, Lucy Dacus said, “I think it’s fair game to say ‘yes,’” confirming the mention. “She actually texted me and asked for my approval.”
Dacus went on to describe how surreal it felt to hear her name on the album. “This is the first Taylor record to come out since meeting her, and listening to a friend’s record feels so much different than a stranger’s record,” she shared.
“It was definitely an experience,” Dacus added.
