“Lady Gaga Set to Return to the MTV VMAs Stage in 2025 With First Performance in Five Years”

Lady Gaga is officially set to bring the chaos back to the MTV stage.
On Saturday, Aug. 30, the MTV VMAs confirmed via Instagram that the pop icon will perform at this year’s star-packed ceremony. “There will be magic in the air at the 2025 #VMAs because @LADYGAGA IS PERFORMING! 🪄” the post read. It continued, “You won’t want to miss her return, September 7 on @cbstv and @paramountplus! Let mayhem commence!!!”
The performance marks Gaga’s first appearance at the show in five years. She last graced the VMAs in 2020 during a virtual broadcast, teaming up with Ariana Grande for “Rain on Me” alongside other tracks from Chromatica. The powerful duet earned Song of the Year, while Gaga herself took home Artist of the Year. Before that, her most recent VMA stage moment was back in 2013.
This year, Gaga leads the nominations with a total of 12 nods, including Artist of the Year and Best Album for Mayhem. Her dazzling “Abracadabra” visuals are also up for multiple technical awards such as Best Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Cinematography.
In addition, Gaga and Bruno Mars are contenders in several categories for their duet “Die with a Smile,” which is nominated for Best Pop, Best Collaboration, Song of the Year, and Video of the Year.
Currently, the “Abracadabra” singer is taking her Mayhem Ball Tour across North America, with stops in Miami, New York, Chicago, and Toronto before heading to Europe from late September through November. She’s already showcased material from her latest album earlier this year — at Coachella in April and during her historic free concert at Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach on May 3, which drew a record-breaking crowd.
The 2025 VMAs lineup is stacked with additional big-name performers. Sabrina Carpenter, Ricky Martin, Sombr, Alex Warren, J Balvin with DJ Snake, and Busta Rhymes are all scheduled to hit the stage. Post Malone, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, Conan Gray, and Tate McRae will also perform live at UBS Arena.
Adding to the excitement, Mariah Carey will receive the prestigious Video Vanguard Award and deliver a career-spanning medley of her greatest hits, which the network has promised will be a “show-stopping” moment.
