Lady Gaga Shares Heartfelt Praise for Bruno Mars as They Take Home a 2025 Grammy Together: “I Can’t Imagine Music Without Bruno”

Bruno Mars expressed his gratitude to Lady Gaga while accepting the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, saying, “I’m truly honored to have a small role in your incredible musical legacy.”
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars took home the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with their song “Die with a Smile” at the 2025 ceremony in Los Angeles on February 2. During their emotional speeches, Mars, 40, expressed his gratitude to Gaga, 38, for the opportunity to collaborate, saying, “I’m so honored to be part of this song with you. I’m truly privileged to have a small role in your vast musical legacy, and I honestly believe that God brought us together to sing this song.”
Gaga, in turn, praised Mars, calling him “an incredible human being” and “a musician for the ages.” She added, “I don’t know music without Bruno.” Gaga also took a moment to thank her fiancé, Michael Polansky, saying, “Michael, I love you so much. Your support and love mean everything to me every single day.”
“It’s a true privilege to be a songwriter, producer, and musician,” Gaga continued. “It’s an honor to perform for all of you.”
She then paid a heartfelt tribute to the queer community, which garnered a standing ovation. “I just want to say tonight that trans people are not invisible. Trans people deserve love. The queer community deserves to be uplifted.”
“Music is love,” she concluded. “Thank you.”
Earlier in the ceremony, Mars and Gaga delivered a moving performance of The Mamas and the Papas’ “California Dreamin’,” honoring those impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires.
The category featured strong competition this year, with nominees including “Us” by Gracie Abrams featuring Taylor Swift, “LEVII’S JEANS” by Beyoncé featuring Post Malone, “Guess” by Charli XCX and Billie Eilish, and “The Boy Is Mine” by Ariana Grande, Brandy, and Monica.
“Die with a Smile” marks the first duet between Gaga and Mars, and it’s clear that it was well worth the wait.
Gaga shared her excitement in a statement when the song was released, saying, “Bruno and I have so much mutual respect for each other, and we had been talking about collaborating. I was finishing my album in Malibu, and after a long day, he invited me to his studio to hear something he was working on.”
The two artists ended up staying up all night to write and record the track. Gaga praised Mars’ talent, saying, “Bruno’s abilities are beyond words. His musicianship and vision are on another level. There’s no one like him.”
Mars, in turn, called Gaga “an icon,” adding, “She makes this song magical. I’m thrilled for everyone to hear it.”
The song’s powerful chorus reflects the deep connection between the two: “If the world was ending, I’d wanna be next to you / If the party was over, and our time on Earth was through / I’d wanna hold you, just for a while / And die with a smile.”
Released in August, the track reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January. Both artists are also nominated for two Grammys this year.
