Lana Del Rey Surprises Fans With Impromptu Performance in Santa Barbara
Lana Del Rey gave a local band a memory of a lifetime when she unexpectedly joined them on stage over the weekend.
On Saturday, Sept. 27, the Santa Barbara group Fastest Kids in School was in the middle of covering her 2014 single “West Coast” when the singer happened to be nearby. Del Rey, 40, approached the band and asked if she could sing with them — a request they eagerly accepted.
Sharing the moment on Instagram, the band wrote: “Super honored @honeymoon joined us on stage at Institution today! Truly a show we’ll never forget!” alongside a video of Del Rey performing with them outdoors.
Band member Dan Grimes later elaborated in the comments, recalling how it all happened. “She just happened to be walking by while we were playing her song and motioned to see if we wouldn’t mind if she came on stage. Of course, we obliged — and that’s when my head exploded. She told us she was just ‘out getting some ice cream,’” he wrote. In a separate caption, he described it as “a moment I will never forget” and admitted he still couldn’t believe it had happened.
The surprise appearance came shortly after Del Rey celebrated her first wedding anniversary with Jeremy Dufrene. On Instagram, she shared a carousel of wedding photos, including shots of the pair kissing on an airboat, posing with guests, and cutting their cake. The couple tied the knot in Des Allemandes, Louisiana, in the same bayou where Dufrene — a swamp boat tour guide — works.
Del Rey also recently opened up to W Magazine about her forthcoming album, now titled Stove. Previously known as Lasso and The Right Person Will Stay, the record’s release was postponed after she decided to add six more tracks. “They were more autobiographical than I thought, and that took more time,” she explained, noting that much of the project carries a strong country influence.
The “Summertime Sadness” singer collaborated with producers Luke Laird and Jack Antonoff on the LP, which she says blends storytelling with her signature world-building style. Throughout 2025, Del Rey has released several singles from the project, including “Bluebird” and “Henry, Come On.”
