Lil Nas X ‘Doing Great’ During First Court Appearance Since Treatment
Lil Nas X made his first court appearance following his release from an inpatient treatment program, nearly three months after being arrested on assault charges in Los Angeles.
The 26-year-old Grammy winner (born Montero Hill) entered an L.A. courtroom on Monday, Nov. 17, smiling as a judge signed a protective order related to the transfer of discovery in his case, according to Rolling Stone.
This marked the singer’s first court appearance since leaving treatment, which he entered after his Aug. 21 arrest for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
“Montero is doing amazing, doing great, and we’re super happy for him,” Lil Nas X’s attorney Drew Findling told reporters after the hearing. “We’re looking forward to a positive resolution in this case, which we’re very confident of.”
His next court date is scheduled for March 12. He had missed a September appearance while receiving treatment out of state, following his release from jail in August.
After the hearing, Findling emphasized that the priority is Lil Nas X’s well-being. “We’re doing what’s best for him personally and professionally, but most importantly for his health,” he said. “He’s surrounded by an amazing family and team. He’s had a great life and will continue to have a great life. This is just a bump he’ll get over.”
Lil Nas X was arrested on Aug. 21 after police responded to reports of him allegedly walking naked along Ventura Blvd. in Los Angeles. According to a criminal complaint obtained by PEOPLE, he allegedly used force against three officers and attempted to prevent a fourth officer from performing their duties.
He appeared in court on Aug. 25, waived his arraignment, and pleaded not guilty to three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. Bail was set at $75,000, and he was required to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week. He was released the same day.
The following day, Lil Nas X addressed the incident in a video on Instagram Stories, reassuring fans: “Your girl is gonna be okay… That was terrifying, but your girl is gonna be all right.”
His attorney, Christy O’Connor, denied any involvement of drugs in the incident, describing the alleged behavior as “an absolute aberration in this person’s life” and emphasizing that nothing like this has happened before.
