Lizzo Honors Late Mentor Prince While Seeking ‘Real-Life Love’ in Her First New Song in Two Years

The Grammy-winning artist will offer a sneak peek of her upcoming album, Love in Real Life, during three exclusive North American concerts in March.
Lizzo has made her return!
After a two-year break from music, the Grammy winner dropped her new single, “Love in Real Life,” along with a music video on Feb. 28, revealing it as the title track of her upcoming album.
Musically, “Love in Real Life” showcases Lizzo drawing inspiration from her late mentor, Prince. Over an energetic, funk-driven beat reminiscent of his classic “Let’s Go Crazy,” she delivers lyrics about pushing through challenges to embrace a night of joy.
In the song, Lizzo sings, “Tonight, I might make an appearance since I look this fine / And plus, it’s been a while,” before adding, “Tonight, tequila, do your job, girl, help me change my mind / How many shots this time? (One, two, three, four).”
The music video plays out like a scene from a movie musical. It begins with Lizzo, known for “Good as Hell,” sitting at a vanity in an opulent hallway, gazing into a mirror as she reflects, “Everything was so much simpler, and that’s exactly what I need. No views, no likes. Real love in real life.”
She then hops into a car with a friend, heading to a nightclub where a crowd performs synchronized choreography to “Love in Real Life.” However, the night takes a strange turn as some of the dancers begin to transform in a mysterious, almost monstrous way—forcing a frightened Lizzo to make a run for it.
As the music suddenly pauses, the dancers slowly close in on Lizzo. Just when the tension peaks, she shuts her eyes—only to reopen them and find herself performing alongside the eerie, transformed crowd.
In the final moments of the video, a car pulls up to the group, and a snippet of what appears to be a brand-new song plays through the speakers, hinting at what’s next from Lizzo.
With the release of her new single, Lizzo also revealed that she will give fans an early look at her upcoming album, Love in Real Life, through a series of intimate North American concerts. She is scheduled to perform at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on March 12, Irving Plaza in New York City on March 16, and First Avenue in Minneapolis on March 18.
