Lizzo sent flowers to Seth Meyers’ father as a way of apologizing for calling him a “bitch” and assured that she wouldn’t repeat the mistake.

Meyers reflected, saying, “I couldn’t help but wonder, ‘What had to happen in my career for my dad to call me and say, ‘I received flowers from Lizzo?'”

Lizzo felt remorseful after a drunken phone call to Seth Meyers’ father.

During a recent interview on the April 9 episode of Late Night, Meyers recalled how Lizzo, in a 2022 segment of Seth Goes Day Drinking, had called his father Laurence a “bitch.” He also shared how she made things right afterward.

Meyers commented, “One of the highlights of day-drinking—there were many—was when you called my dad, and we left him a message. I’d like to play it for you now.”

In a clip from the segment, Seth called his dad and told him, “Lizzo wants to say something.”

“Bye, bitch,” Lizzo replied with a laugh, leaving Seth visibly surprised before quickly ending the call. “Why did you hang up?” she asked.

Looking back on the incident, the talk show host explained that Lizzo took steps on her own to make things right.

“I didn’t know you did this,” Seth said. “I learned about it from my dad because you somehow got his address and sent flowers to their house with a note that read, ‘Dear Larry, I’m sorry I called you a bitch.’”

Seth went on, “And let me just say, when we talk about how nothing happens overnight, that moment really hit me. I thought, ‘What had to happen in my career for my dad to call me and say, ‘I got flowers from Lizzo’? Like, how did we get here?’”

Lizzo then suggested they call Seth’s father again. “Listen, I’ll call him, but I won’t call him a bitch,” she joked. “I’ll call him anything.”

When they reached Laurence’s voicemail, Seth encouraged Lizzo to leave a message. “Um, hey, I love you so much. This is Lizzo. I miss you so much,” she said, then whispered to Seth, “Say ‘bitch.'”

Seth responded into the phone, “She called you a bitch backstage,” before quickly hanging up.

Lizzo immediately shot back, “No, you said bitch! That was your line! Read the cue card!”
