Lizzo Shares She Experimented with Ozempic for Weight Loss — But Opens Up About What Truly Made a Difference

By Website Content Manager

“For me, it all comes down to basic science — burning more calories than you consume,” Lizzo explained. “Ozempic helps because it reduces your appetite, so you end up eating less.”

Lizzo Opens Up About Her Weight Loss Journey and Ozempic Use

Lizzo is setting the record straight regarding recent speculation about her weight loss.

In a June 19 appearance on the Just Trish podcast, the 37-year-old singer behind “Good as Hell” confirmed that she has tried Ozempic and other GLP-1 medications—drugs originally developed for managing type 2 diabetes that have recently gained popularity for their ability to suppress appetite.

“I’ve tried it all,” Lizzo admitted. “At the end of the day, it’s about basic science: calories in versus calories out. Ozempic helps because it curbs your appetite, so you naturally eat less.”

She went on to explain that the medication makes you feel full more quickly, but added that she eventually found success through sheer mental discipline rather than relying on these medications.

“I realized that if you can tap into that feeling on your own—mind over matter—it’s essentially the same result,” she said, sharing that her recent weight loss has been driven by willpower and changes to her lifestyle rather than pharmaceutical help.

When asked by host Trisha Paytas how she managed to stay consistent, the Grammy-winning artist—who began her weight loss transformation in 2023—credited her progress to a major shift in her eating habits.

“What really changed things for me was actually stopping my vegan diet,” Lizzo revealed. “When I was vegan, I ate a lot of processed meat substitutes, bread, and rice. I had to eat large quantities just to feel satisfied, and I was probably taking in between 3,000 and 5,000 calories a day.”

She explained that once she switched to eating more whole foods—like beef, chicken, and fish—she felt more satiated without overloading her digestive system with artificial or highly processed foods.

Back in April, Lizzo shared more about her evolving health habits, revealing that she had lowered her body mass index by 10.5 points and reduced her body fat by 16%. One change she highlighted was opting for savory breakfasts over sugary ones as part of her improved routine.
