Madonna Flaunts Bold Style, Showing Skin and Layering in Lace for Daring Photo Shoot

For the latest cover of CR Fashion Book, the Queen of Pop also unveiled an original piece titled Funeral Rites.
According to the release, the issue features Madonna wearing designs from top fashion houses, including Dolce & Gabbana, Swarovski, Jean-Paul Gaultier, vintage Hermès, Maison Margiela, Gucci, Chanel, Saint Laurent, and Louis Vuitton. The edition will also showcase a “tribute pictorial” crafted from wigs, jewelry, and shoes by Roberto Greco, along with a second editorial dedicated to Madonna, titled Madame X.
Carine Roitfeld—stylist, founder, and editor-in-chief of CR Fashion Book—revealed that the inspiration for the upcoming issue “began with Madonna.”
“It was incredible to witness the special connection between Steven Klein and Madonna during that night at the cemetery,” she shared. “They are both relentless creatives and dedicated hard workers.”
Roitfeld also noted, “You could have the same model in the same outfit with a different team, and the result would be entirely different.”
Madonna’s story, Funeral Rites, will be featured alongside imagery curated by Roitfeld and photographer Steven Klein.
The photos capture Madonna in gothic, effortlessly chic looks, set against a cemetery backdrop. In one striking image, she approaches a grave wearing dark sunglasses and an all-black ensemble—except for a Jean-Paul Gaultier trench coat—while holding a bouquet of red flowers. Another shot shows her lying on the grave itself, embracing the haunting aesthetic of the shoot.
In an excerpt from her story, published on the CR Fashion Book website on Feb. 26, Madonna weaves her personal history with themes of mortality—reflecting on her mother’s passing, her fear of losing her father, and her ritualistic burials for estranged lovers, as well as her fascination with the graves of others.
