Madonna Hints at Confessions II Release Through a Star-Studded Short Film Featuring Julia Garner, Kate Moss, and Lourdes

The pop icon premiered the short film at New York City’s Beacon Theatre during the Tribeca Festival before taking part in an engaging discussion with Anderson Cooper.

Just one day after staging a surprise performance in Times Square, the 67-year-old music icon appeared at the Tribeca Festival on June 5 to unveil a provocative short film promoting her upcoming album, Confessions II. According to official materials, the project follows Madonna through a surreal and chaotic nighttime adventure designed to take viewers on an unforgettable journey.
Created by directing duo David Tori and Solomon Chase, collectively known as TORSO, the 10-minute film previews the first six tracks from the album. Among them are the previously released songs “I Feel So Free” and “Bring Your Love,” along with new tracks titled “Good for the Soul,” “One Step Away,” “Danceteria,” and “Read My Lips.”
The visual opens with Madonna relaxing in lingerie inside an apartment before a group of women wearing helmets and carrying cameras dramatically force their way inside. Other scenes place her in a field maneuvering through an elaborate laser display and in a variety of dreamlike settings that blend fantasy with nightlife culture.
The film also features a minor vehicle accident and multiple energetic club sequences. Among the notable appearances are actress Julia Garner, who had been attached to a now-canceled Madonna biopic, and singer Sabrina Carpenter, who collaborated with Madonna on “Bring Your Love.”
As the story unfolds, Madonna explores a nightclub environment, interacting with patrons and sharing scenes with numerous celebrity guests. She crosses paths with actress Odessa A’zion, reconnects with longtime friend Debi Mazar, and dances alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Kate Moss. Many of these moments pay tribute to Madonna’s early years in New York, particularly her connection to the legendary nightclub Danceteria.
Later in the film, her daughter, Lourdes Leon, makes an appearance. The project also includes references to Madonna’s earlier work, including nods to the film Desperately Seeking Susan and the music video for “Deeper and Deeper.” The movie concludes with Lourdes looking directly into the camera and delivering the final line before the screen cuts to black.
Following the screening at New York City’s Beacon Theatre, Madonna joined the directors for a discussion moderated by Anderson Cooper. The conversation focused on Confessions II, which serves as a sequel to her successful 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor, as well as her decades-long career and relationship with LGBTQ+ audiences. Cooper stepped in after Jimmy Fallon was unable to moderate the event.
Welcoming the audience, Cooper enthusiastically introduced Madonna before she took the stage dressed in sunglasses, a white coat, and a glittering mini dress.
During the discussion, Madonna explained that her longtime manager, Guy Oseary, encouraged her to create a short film to accompany the music. She noted that the format appealed to her passion for cinema and joked that traditional music videos no longer carry the same cultural influence they once did.
The singer and the directors revealed that the ambitious project took approximately six months to complete. They also shared that they managed to film 15 celebrity cameos within a four-hour period during production.
Madonna reflected on several other topics during the conversation, including her surprise Times Square show, which reportedly drew around 50,000 attendees, and her remarkable longevity in the entertainment industry. She humorously remarked that many of the artists from her generation are no longer alive, making discussions about her peers somewhat unusual.
The mother of six also spoke proudly about her children, expressing happiness that they have embraced creative pursuits. In a lighthearted moment, she joked that she was relieved none of them chose careers in accounting.
Additionally, Madonna revealed that she collaborated with Lourdes on a track titled “The Test,” featured on Confessions II. She described the songwriting experience as deeply meaningful and characterized it as a moment of healing for both of them.
