Madonna Opens Up About Her Spiritual Journey in First Podcast Interview

Madonna is offering fans a rare glimpse into her inner world.

On Monday, the Queen of Pop, 67, will appear on her very first podcast interview in a new episode of On Purpose with Jay Shetty, PEOPLE exclusively confirms.

In the wide-ranging discussion, Madonna and Shetty delve into her decades-long exploration of spirituality, which began just before the birth of her daughter Lourdes Leon. Their conversation touches on forgiveness, success, and the ways in which spiritual study has influenced both her personal and professional life.

“You need to be spiritual to be successful. Success is having a spiritual life—period. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have one,” Madonna shares in the episode. The superstar first became interested in Kabbalah back in 1996.

Throughout her career, the seven-time Grammy winner has been celebrated for pushing artistic and social boundaries while championing human rights. She says that giving back has always guided her path: “What have I done for others? That’s really the only way you can be successful in life… My soul’s purpose is to reveal light in the world through whatever I do. I want it all, but I want it for the sake of sharing, not to keep it for myself.”

The episode also features her longtime Kabbalah teacher, Eitan Yardeni, as they announce the launch of a new course, The Mystical Studies of the Zohar, debuting Sept. 29.

Reflecting on her journey, Madonna admits she once struggled with being defined by outside perceptions. “I was a slave or victim of other people’s opinions of me,” she says. Over time, she learned to embrace her individuality: “I don’t fit in, and not fitting in is what saves you.”

She credits spirituality with helping her weather life’s challenges. “Spiritual wisdom is not helpful when everything’s going your way. It’s helpful when you’re challenged… It’s helpful to remember that at any given time, it could be gone. So don’t take it for granted. Have humility. Radical acceptance is just accepting that what is happening to you is meant to happen—and that you’re going to be okay.”
