Mariah Carey revealed that she will be performing the final show of her annual Christmas tour after having to cancel the last three shows due to illness.
In an Instagram post on Monday, Carey, 55, expressed her gratitude to her fans, saying, “Lambs, thank you for making my #Christmastime so special ❤️ I’ve loved singing with you every night, and I can’t wait to see you all tomorrow in Brooklyn for the show of the tour,” referring to her Dec. 17 performance at Barclays Center in New York.
On Wednesday, Dec. 11, just before she was scheduled to perform at Pittsburgh’s PPG Paints Arena, Mariah Carey announced on X (formerly Twitter) that she had to cancel the show due to illness.
“Pittsburgh, I am sorry to say, I’ve come down with the flu. It breaks my heart that I unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show. I love you all so much,” she wrote. Ticket holders received a full refund.
Two days later, the Grammy-winner announced that she was “still sick” and had to cancel her shows at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., and UBS Arena in Belmont Park, N.Y.
“I’m really devastated about it and appreciate your support. Love, MC, 💔,” she wrote in a post on X.
Before confirming she’d be well enough to perform her Dec. 17 show, Carey lightheartedly shared on Instagram over the weekend, “Christmas Time Is In The Air Again ❤️🎄(and so are the germs that got me sick, but let’s stay positive!).”
The mother of two announced her Christmas Time tour on Aug. 2. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the time, Carey revealed she had been “working day and night on this one.”
“I worked with some incredible people on this, like Miss Debbie Allen. I’ll be doing songs I’ve never done before, some duets. I’ve got to keep some surprises,” she shared.
On Monday, Billboard reported that Carey’s hit “All I Want for Christmas” had topped the charts for the 16th consecutive week, tying with her other hit “One Sweet Day.”
The Queen of Christmas celebrated the milestone on Instagram Stories, writing, “Best news to wake up to as I prepare for the last show of the tour tomorrow!!!! ❤️🎄🎁🎉❄️🦌✨.”
