Mariah Carey delivered a dazzling display of style and star power at the 2025 BET Awards.
On June 9, the 56-year-old music icon surprised fans by skipping the red carpet but later made a stunning appearance during the show. She brought disco-inspired glamour to the stage with a performance of the lead single from her upcoming 16th studio album, Type Dangerous, followed by a crowd-pleasing rendition of her hit, “It’s Like That.”
For her performance, Carey wore a shimmering gold minidress paired with matching heels. She added some contrast with sparkling accessories, including embellished hoop earrings and layers of glitzy bracelets. Her hair, normally worn in curls, was styled straight for a sleek, polished finish — a glam look with strong ’90s vibes.
Though a BET Awards veteran, Carey hadn’t performed at the show since 2022, when she appeared alongside Latto. This year, she returned to the spotlight in grand fashion, being recognized with the prestigious BET Ultimate Icon Award, alongside fellow honorees Jamie Foxx, Kirk Franklin, and Snoop Dogg.
To accept the award, Carey stepped out in a second outfit: a figure-hugging, floor-length white gown with a plunging sweetheart neckline. Carey’s last red carpet appearance was at the Recording Academy Honors’ Black Music Collective event in February 2024. She also attended the iHeartRadio Music Awards in March, where she skipped the red carpet but stunned on stage in a mermaid-style gown while accepting her Icon Award.
The pop legend continues to embrace new chapters both personally and professionally. She celebrated her 56th birthday on March 27 in signature glam style, donning a sheer, sequin-covered dress in a TikTok clip set to her 2005 anthem “It’s Like That.”
