Nicki Minaj Faces Lawsuit for Assault and Battery Filed by Ex-Tour Manager

A former tour manager for the Pink Friday 2 tour claims that the rapper physically struck him and verbally attacked him, saying, “You will never amount to anything, I’ll make sure of it.”
Nicki Minaj is facing a lawsuit for assault, battery, and “intentional infliction of emotional distress” filed by her former tour manager.
Brandon Garrett, who served as the day-to-day manager during Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 tour, submitted the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on January 3, 2025. The 42-year-old Grammy nominee is accused of hitting Garrett and verbally attacking him during a confrontation while the tour was in progress.
According to the complaint, the alleged incident occurred on April 21, 2024, backstage at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, following Minaj’s concert.
Garrett’s legal team states in the lawsuit that he was en route to the arena when Minaj’s head of security, Larry Dathan, contacted him, requesting he meet with Minaj in her dressing room. The complaint reveals that when Garrett arrived, Minaj’s staff, including an employee named Luke Montgomery, were present. Garrett claims Minaj began to express dissatisfaction about the staff’s roles and responsibilities, and then questioned Montgomery about his position.
The lawsuit details that “Mr. Montgomery explained that his responsibilities included tasks such as setting up venue dressing rooms, preparing private jets, arranging hotel rooms, providing refreshments for quick change rooms, and setting up the tour bus.” The suit further adds that Montgomery noted these duties were in addition to any special requests from Minaj that Garrett communicated, including food, drinks, personal items, baby supplies, and notably, prescription orders.
Garrett states that he informed Minaj he had asked Montgomery to pick up the prescriptions as he was occupied with other tour-related duties, such as assisting Minaj with costume changes during her performances.
According to the complaint, Garrett claims Minaj became “visibly upset” and “angrily screamed” at him, saying, “Are you f—— crazy having him pick up my prescription? You have lost your f—— mind, and if my husband [Kenneth Petty] were here, he would knock out your f—— teeth. You’re a dead man walking. You just f—– up your whole life, and you will never be anyone, I’ll make sure of it.”
Minaj is also said to have yelled at Montgomery and instructed him to search through his phone to confirm the exact medications he had picked up for her. The suit further claims that Minaj then focused on Garrett again, getting “very close to his face.”
The complaint goes on to state, “At this point, [Minaj] open-handedly struck [Garrett] on the right side of his face, causing his head to swing backwards as his hat flew off his head.” Additionally, Garrett’s attorneys assert that he was also struck on his right wrist, causing it to “throb.”
Garrett’s attorneys state in the complaint that after the incident, the former manager locked himself in a bathroom for several hours. He later received a text message informing him that he was not being asked to accompany Minaj to the next tour stop.
Eventually, Garrett filed an official police report in Detroit, and his legal team is now seeking punitive and exemplary damages, in addition to general damages.
