Rihanna Struck by Closing Door During New York City Appearance, Shares Message With Bodyguard

Rihanna proved she can laugh off even the most awkward moments.

The 37-year-old superstar was leaving the Four Seasons Hotel in New York City on Friday, Jan. 16, when a minor mishap occurred as her security guard stepped ahead of her, allowing the door to swing shut before she could exit.

Rather than reacting with frustration, the Grammy winner paused briefly and delivered a dry, humorous comment, saying, “Such a gentleman you are,” in a moment captured on video that has since circulated widely online. She then laughed to herself before getting into a waiting vehicle.

The incident took place on the same day Rihanna’s longtime partner, A$AP Rocky, released his fourth studio album, Don’t Be Dumb. The following evening, Rocky appeared as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, and the couple was later spotted attending the show’s after-party together.

Rocky, who shares sons RZA, 3½, and Riot, 2, as well as daughter Rocki, born in September, with the “Love on the Brain” singer, recently spoke candidly about their relationship on The New York Times’ Popcast. He revealed that his mother, Renee, had encouraged him years earlier to pursue Rihanna romantically.

According to Rocky, his mother repeatedly suggested that Rihanna was the right partner for him, even when he doubted the possibility. Reflecting on it now, he said he believes the timing was crucial, noting that neither of them would have been ready for the relationship earlier in their lives. He went on to describe Rihanna as someone truly extraordinary.

More recently, Rihanna has hinted that she may be open to expanding her family further. Earlier this month, former Love Island contestant Montana Rose Brown shared a video on Instagram debating whether to focus on her career or pregnancy in 2026. Rihanna chimed in with a playful comment on Jan. 12, suggesting she shared the same thoughts.
