Sabrina Carpenter Says She Took a Tumble Into a Cactus While Shooting Her “Manchild” Video: ‘I Burst Into Tears’

“Manchild” has earned four nominations at the upcoming Grammy Awards.
Sabrina Carpenter didn’t escape her intricate “Manchild” music video shoot without a few injuries.
On Late Night with Seth Meyers, the 26-year-old singer, known for Go Go Juice, discussed her six Grammy nominations. Among them, she’s receiving her first-ever nod for Best Music Video for “Manchild” — and she shared a memorable mishap that happened during filming outdoors.
“I fell on a cactus,” Carpenter admitted to the 51-year-old host. “It’s easy to laugh when someone gets hurt, and I did at first. But then I started crying.”
She added, “There was a medic, and for the rest of the day, I was just… picking stuff out of…” before trailing off.
Despite the minor cactus mishap, Carpenter is proud of the outcome of her “Manchild” music video, which took three days to film.
“That shoot was incredibly ambitious — we went through 37 outfit changes,” she shared. “It was probably the biggest shoot I’ve ever done. I’m so grateful I got to bring my dream production to life, but it definitely came with its fair share of challenges and discomfort.”
Carpenter added that the video holds special meaning for her. “I really love it because, even though I make pop music, you don’t usually expect visuals like this in a song like that. It means a lot to me, and I’m thrilled that people are enjoying it.”
“Manchild,” the lead single from her latest album Man’s Best Friend, is also up for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
In June, Carpenter shared the inspiration behind the track in an Instagram post. She explained that she wrote the song spontaneously on a Tuesday with collaborators Amy and Jack, shortly after finishing Short n’ Sweet. “It ended up being the best random Tuesday of my life,” she wrote, sharing behind-the-scenes photos from the video shoot.
She described the song as a soundtrack to the rollercoaster of young adulthood: “It’s like the musical embodiment of a loving eye roll and feels like a never-ending summer road trip! That’s why I wanted to release it now — so you can stick your head out the car window and sing it all summer long. Thank you, always and forever, for listening, and thank you men for testing me!! 🐷🤍”
