Source: Britney Spears Returns Home Following DUI Arrest

The pop singer was taken into custody on Wednesday, March 4, in Ventura, California, on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Britney Spears has returned home following her arrest on suspicion of DUI, a source told PEOPLE.
The 44-year-old pop star was taken into custody on the evening of Wednesday, March 4, and released early Thursday morning, March 5, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Office records. She was briefly taken to a hospital for a blood alcohol test.
“She is very emotional and remorseful this morning,” the source said.
The California Highway Patrol stated that Spears was “driving erratically at high speed, displayed signs of impairment, and completed a series of field sobriety tests.” She was arrested for violating California Vehicle Code section 23152(g), which involves driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and was booked at Ventura County Main Jail.
Spears is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
A representative for Spears told PEOPLE, “This was an unfortunate and entirely inexcusable incident. Britney intends to take the proper steps, comply with the law, and hopes this marks the beginning of much-needed changes in her life. She also hopes to receive the help and support she needs during this challenging period.”
The statement added, “Her sons will spend time with her, and her loved ones are working on a long-overdue plan to support her well-being,” referring to Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, whom she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Earlier this week, Spears deleted her Instagram account. Shortly before her arrest, she posted a provocative clip of herself dancing at home in revealing lingerie, with emojis strategically covering private areas.
In recent years, Spears has faced several personal challenges. She was freed from a 13-year conservatorship in November 2021 when an L.A. county judge officially ended it. Last month, the Grammy-winning artist sold her music catalog, PEOPLE previously reported.
