Directed by Mary Lambert, renowned for her work on music videos for artists like Janet Jackson, Sting, the Eurythmics, and Madonna’s own “Like a Virgin” and “Material Girl,” the video captures the essence of the song’s Latin music influence.

Featuring Spanish flamenco guitar and maracas, the song showcases Madonna portraying two versions of herself: one in a red dress, reminiscent of traditional flamenco dancers, moving through a candlelit room, and the other as a young Catholic woman secretly admiring a street musician playing below.

While “La Isla Bonita” now holds the title of Madonna’s most-viewed music video on YouTube, her 1989 video for “Like A Prayer” gained the most cultural attention upon its release. The track sparked controversy due to its provocative use of Catholic religious imagery in a sensual context.

“La Isla Bonita” experienced a resurgence, partly driven by a wave of TikTok trends. In the past year, over 200,000 videos have featured the song, with users frequently using it as the soundtrack for their fashion and vacation clips.

Madonna’s next most-viewed YouTube videos include “Hung Up” with 531 million views, “Bitch I’m Madonna” featuring Nicki Minaj at 368 million views, and “Like a Prayer” with 341 million views.

In December 2024, the pop legend revealed plans to release new music in 2025, confirming she’s once again teaming up with producer Stuart Price. The two previously collaborated on tracks like “Get Together” and “Jump” from her 2005 album. Price has also worked with artists like Kylie Minogue, The Killers, and Pet Shop Boys.
