Zayn Malik’s recent onstage joke has fans wondering whether he was subtly referencing former bandmate Harry Styles.
During one of his Las Vegas residency shows at Dolby Live at Park MGM, the “Pillowtalk” singer made a lighthearted comment about ticket prices—just as Styles has been facing online backlash over the cost of seats for his upcoming Together, Together concert series.
In a fan-recorded TikTok video, Malik thanked the audience for attending his show, noting that they could have chosen to spend their evening anywhere else. He then quipped that he hoped the tickets hadn’t been too expensive, delivering the remark with a playful shrug that quickly caught fans’ attention.
Malik is currently performing a seven-show residency at the venue, with dates running through Jan. 31.
The timing of his comment raised eyebrows, as it followed Styles’ announcement of his global Together, Together tour, which includes an extensive 30-show run at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Ticket presales for the MSG dates began this week, with Ticketmaster informing fans that prices ranged from $50 to $1,182.40, including service fees. The company emphasized that pricing was set by the tour and would not fluctuate between presale and general sale, noting that VIP packages were excluded from the listed range.
Fans were quick to voice their frustration online. Some joked that such prices would only be justified by an extended, spectacle-filled performance, while others criticized what they described as unaffordable costs in the current economic climate. Several posts accused the pricing structure of prioritizing profit over accessibility, arguing that fans should not have to spend the equivalent of a month’s rent to attend a single concert.
Styles’ Madison Square Garden shows are scheduled from August through October, with additional tour stops planned in cities including Amsterdam, London, São Paulo, Mexico City, Melbourne, and Sydney. According to The Hollywood Reporter, non-VIP tickets for his U.K. dates range from approximately $60 to $1,000. The concerts will support his upcoming album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally., set for release on March 6.
Meanwhile, some fans pointed out that Malik has faced similar criticism in the past. Discussions resurfaced on social media about pricing for his own Vegas residency, with claims that ticket costs shifted between presale and general sale. One user cautioned against interpreting Malik’s joke as a direct jab at Styles, reminding others that Malik’s fans had also raised concerns about pricing during earlier tour announcements.
