Following her separation from husband Sam Asghari, Britney Spears has chosen to break her silence.
The 41-year-old pop icon took to Instagram on Friday to address their impending divorce: “As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together… 6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I’m a little shocked but… I’m not here to explain why because its honestly nobody’s business!!!”
Spears continued, revealing her emotional struggle: “But, I couldn’t take the pain anymore honestly!!! In some sort of telepathic way, I have been receiving so many messages that melt my heart from friends and I thank you!!! I’ve been playing it strong for way too long and my Instagram may seem perfect but it’s far from reality and I think we all know that!!! I would love to show my emotions and tears on how I really feel but some reason I’ve always had to hide my weaknesses!!!”
Acknowledging her strength, Spears stated: “If I wasn’t my dad’s strong soldier, I would be sent away to places to get fixed by doctors!!! But that’s when I needed family the most!!! You’re supposed to be loved unconditionally… not under conditions!!!!”
She concluded the post with determination: “I will be as strong as I can and do my best!!! And I’m actually doing pretty damn good!!! Anyways, have a good day and don’t forget to smile!!!”
The separation between Spears and Asghari, 29, was confirmed by PEOPLE on Wednesday, with the actor filing for divorce on the same day, just 14 months into their marriage.
After their introduction in 2016 on the set of Spears’ music video “Slumber Party,” the couple embarked on a journey that led to their engagement in September 2021 and their subsequent wedding on June 9, 2022.
Despite facing a challenging period, the star remains resilient and positive. A source close to the situation revealed to PEOPLE, “Obviously, it’s never an easy thing to go through, but she’s remaining positive and focusing on the future.” The decision to part ways was reached a few weeks prior, as the former couple had been grappling with issues for several months, as insiders previously noted.
Amidst this, Spears is maintaining a busy schedule with a range of work projects, including an upcoming book release and new music endeavors. The source shared, “She is focused on her book release, has an upcoming writers’ camp, and is getting songs from some big artists. Ideally, she would love to do a new record soon, and maybe a powerful song for the book’s release.” (Spears is set to unveil her highly anticipated memoir, “The Woman in Me,” on October 24.)
Asghari, the model-actor, initially served as a pillar of support for the singer, standing by her side during her conservatorship battle. Throughout their time together, both Spears and Asghari shared glimpses of their marriage on social media, showcasing moments of birthday celebrations, hiking adventures, and even photos of them dressed in matching outfits, the most recent of which was in July.
While a manager representing Asghari refrained from commenting, and a spokesperson for Spears has not yet responded to requests for comment, the fitness trainer himself addressed the situation on his Instagram Stories.
“AFTER 6 YEARS OF LOVE AND COMMITMENT TO EACH OTHER, MY WIFE AND I HAVE DECIDED TO END OUR JOURNEY TOGETHER,” he shared. “WE WILL HOLD ONTO THE LOVE AND RESPECT WE HAVE FOR EACH OTHER AND I WISH HER THE BEST ALWAYS.”
He concluded his statement with a touch of candidness, stating, “S— HAPPENS.”
