The Songbird Supreme marked her 55th birthday, affectionately referred to as her “anniversary,” on March 27th.

Mariah Carey ensured her 55th birthday was “One Sweet Day” as she celebrated the milestone, which she famously refers to as her “anniversary,” on Wednesday. To kick off the celebrations, the pop icon took to Instagram to share a breathtaking selfie, radiating with positivity and birthday joy.

“Anniversary adventures commence 🎉🦋,” Mimi captioned the photo, capturing the essence of the special day.

In the snapshot, the Songbird Supreme exuded relaxation while aboard a yacht, embarking on what seemed to be a serene journey. Embracing the essence of mermaidcore, she donned a snug, sequined indigo gown, complemented by a curly, flowing ponytail and eye-catching dark purple eye makeup.

With a wide smile, Carey appeared genuinely delighted to celebrate her “anniversary,” radiating joy in the photograph.

Fans flooded the comments section with heartfelt “happy anniversary” wishes, expressing admiration for Mariah Carey’s captivating appearance. Many remarked on her enchanting mermaid-inspired look, describing her as “giving mermaid butterfly” and complimenting her radiant beauty in the striking blue ensemble.

Last year, the Grammy winner also marked her birthday while on vacation, opting for a celebratory plunge into the stunning tropical waters, as captured in a video shared on Instagram.

“Celebratory splash at 3:27 on 3.27! 🦋🍾🎉🌊,” the “Obsessed” singer captioned the post.

Carey has long embraced the notion of birthdays as anniversaries, a concept she discussed in a 2014 OUT Magazine cover story. She revealed feeling “eternally 12-years-old” and explained her decision to celebrate the anniversary of her 12th birthday.

“As a kid I literally made this pact,” she shared. “There had been some sort of argument with my mom and the man she was dating at the time, and somehow I became a part of it — I was around 8 or 9 years old, and I said, ‘I’m never going to forget how it feels to be a kid, and you can’t be seen or heard.’ It’s as though your opinion doesn’t mean anything, or your feelings are not real.”

Further elaborating on her perspective in an interview with The Observer, she stated, “I don’t count years but I definitely rebuke them… I have anniversaries, not birthdays, because I celebrate life, darling.”

On the anniversary of her last year’s celebration, the “We Belong Together” singer reshared an old video interview on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), in which she expressed, “I don’t have birthdays.” She continued, “No, well, I just have anniversaries. I decided to do that. And I’ve noticed that people who decide not to have birthdays, they just don’t have them.”

This year marks a significant milestone for Mariah Carey, with the commencement of her third Las Vegas residency slated for next month.

Titled “Mariah Carey: The Celebration of Mimi Live,” the show is poised to commemorate the forthcoming 20th anniversary of her acclaimed 2005 album, “The Emancipation of Mimi.” Taking place at Dolby Live at Park MGM, the highly anticipated concert series is set to debut on April 12, featuring eight shows throughout the month.

In addition to her Vegas residency, the R&B icon finds herself among the nominees for the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of this year. Alongside esteemed artists such as Cher, Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Lenny Kravitz, Ozzy Osbourne, Sade, and others, Carey’s inclusion in the nomination list has generated excitement.

Following the announcement of the nominees in February, Carey took to Instagram to express her elation. Sharing an image of all the nominations alongside a solo shot of herself, she conveyed gratitude in the caption, stating, “Beyond excited and thrilled to be among these legendary nominees for this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. Congratulations to all! @rockhall.”
